7th Grade Counselor
My name is Misti Southern and I am your 7th grade counselor this year. I come to you from the great state of West Virginia. I am a graduate of Fairmont State College where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology/Criminal Justice. I am also a graduate of West Virginia University where I earned my Master of Arts degree in School Counseling. This is my first year here in North Carolina and here at East Milbrooke Middle School; I am very excited to be here!! Prior to coming here, I worked as a school counselor for three years in a middle school in the West Virginia school system and as a school social worker for two years.
My goal as the school counselor this year is to assist my students with the adjustments/transitions that come along with the middle school years. There are many challenges that children face daily during this time in their lives; I look forward to easing those challenges in any way that I can. My time will be spent focusing on the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. Through these activities and discussions, I am confident that the students will learn vital life skills that will empower them to become more confident, independent, and mature as individuals.
I am hopeful that this year will be a positive one for all of us. I look forward to "simply listening" and helping 8th graders and their families/care takers in any aspect that may be needed. Please feel free to call me at 850-8766 or email me at msouthern@wcpss.net with any concerns or questions.
Remember to think positively and have a great year!!
