8th Grade Counselor
My name is Susan Sigmon and I am the 8th grade counselor this year. I serve the East Millbrook community with twenty-nine years of experience in Wake County Public Schools. My undergraduate work in humanities was completed at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and I received a Masters of Education in School Counseling from North Carolina State University.
I have enjoyed the learning experiences at the elementary, middle, and high school levels but have found that middle school is where my heart is. As a counselor at East Millbrook, I look forward to the academic and personal growth of my students from their entry in sixth grade through their promotion to ninth. It is amazing how many changes await adolescents and their parents during the middle school years.
My goal as a counselor this year is focused on assisting my students and their parents in navigating the world of adolescence in preparation for the transition to high school. We will spend time together this year developing personal leadership, decision-making, and communication skills. With the assistance of Darlene Frazier, Curriculum Development Coordinator, eighth graders will have opportunities to explore careers and develop educational plans for their future.
The year will be exciting for us all. I can be reached at 501-7990 or ssigmon@wcpss.net.
