Weekly announcements

    • East Millbrook will host an Open House for rising 6th graders and their parents on Tuesday, November 17 at 9:00 am and again at 12:00 noon. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn more about our school and what we have to offer. If you know of any current 5th graders who might be interested in our school, please encourage them to bring their parents to our Open House.
    • It is not too late to join the PTSA. Memberships are only five dollars and the money is used to support our school. As of today we only have 107 parent members, but we have over 1200 students. Being a member does not obligate you to attend the meetings, although we would love to see more parents attend. Please consider joining the PTSA if you have not already.

    • Citipass orders will be delivered to your Arts students on Thursday, November 19.

    • The Raleigh Police Department is asking that parents not drop off their students on Spring Forest Road or on Hollenden. This creates an unsafe situation for the students and other motorists. Please be aware that the Police Department will be targeting this area and will be enforcing this expectation. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe arrival and departure for all of our students.

    • Beginning last week there will no longer be activity buses on Wednesdays. From now on, activity buses will only run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
    • Kudos to Mr. Corey and the students in his Advanced Choir who made us proud at last Saturday's Magnet Fair. The students did a great job and represented us well!
    • The National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a canned food drive from now until Nov 20. Students can bring in 3 cans of food to receive 1 hour of community service. For 2 hours, bring in six cans. No more than two hours of service can be received for this project. Students can drop off cans with any teacher on campus and have the service sheet signed at the time of drop-off.

    • Walsworth is giving East Millbrook Middle School students a chance to enter drawings to win a $1,000 scholarship prize. There is one more Sweepstakes drawings this fall - on Dec. 9. Students and their parents/guardians can enter simply by visiting yearbookforever.com and filling out a short online entry form. Please see the school webpage for more information.

    • A reminder to parents that the Free and Reduced Meal Benefit application is available in the Main Office. This application can be submitted throughout the school year.

    • Eighth grade parents are encouraged to take advantage of the Magnet High School Open House information that was included with report cards. For additional information, contact Susan Sigmon, counselor.
  • East Millbrook's Saturday Academy. December 12th from 10:00 to 12:00 in the 6th grade building. We will be offering clinics and workshops for parents and students. Classes are free. Our goal is to provide unique opportunities, enhance student creativity and parental involvement through school and community-wide initiatives that will lead to education success. To participate, please contact Darlene Frazier at 850-8983 or email dfrazier1@wcpss.net (flyer attached)
  • Student Council is collecting items for Operation shoebox. Items include bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hard candy, small toys, hair barrettes, hair brushes/combs, small stuff animals, or other items that will fit into a shoebox. The items will be donated and shipped to children around the world. We will be collecting these items November 17th.
  • I encourage everyone who has not already done so to get a SPAN account as quickly as possible. The Student Parent Access Network allows parents to keep up with their child's schedule, attendance, grades, disciplinary information, etc. It is a useful tool for keeping up with your child's progress. Forms can be found on our website or you can stop by the main office during regular school hours.
  • As always you can visit our website for more information on these and other events. Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Andrew Livengood
