Sharing love, compassion, respect for community, and respect for the wisdom and knowledge of our elders...

We are thankful for these wonderful, heartfelt experiences!

What is Roots & Shoots?

The Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. And it all starts with you! With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network branches out across the globe, connecting youth of all ages who share a common desire to help make our world a better place. This powerful, youth-driven network fosters a fun, flexible and supportive environment where young people and adults alike come together to share ideas and inspiration, implement successful community service projects and participate in special events and global campaigns.

What Makes the Roots & Shoots Program Unique?
Caring and Compassionate Leadership

Roots & Shoots is guided by the founding principles and extraordinary vision of Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist, environmentalist and humanitarian. Her firm belief that young people, when informed and empowered, when they realize that what they do truly makes a difference, can indeed change the world, is at the very heart of our program. This powerful message of hope inspires us all. Our program—dedicated to inspiring tomorrow's leaders today—not only motivates young people to learn about pertinent issues facing our local and global communities, but helps them actually design, lead and implement their own projects as a means of solving them.

Our Roots and Shoots group adopted a beautiful Manatee named "Georgia" during our 2007-2008 school year. We will adopt a new manatee in need this fall. Please click on Howie below to learn more about how YOU can help the Manatee as well. They are beautiful, graceful, gentle giants in great danger and they desperately need your help too !

Franklin County Humane Society Santa Paws Event at Wake Forest Petsmart. (Christmas season 2008) With the help of the EMMMS Roots and Shoots club, the shelter earned more money and donations than any previous Petsmart event. Way to go girls!!!  We will join the crew again this winter.
