Welcome to the East Millbrook Orchestra Program!
The orchestra program at East Millbrook consists of four levels of study. The beginning class is open to any student in grades 6 through 8 who is interested in learning how to play a stringed instrument. Violin, viola, cello, and bass are the only instruments offered in strings classes. There are no requirements for beginning strings class at East Millbrook. Most beginning string students are hard-working and excited about learning how to play an instrument. The end result can be amazing: this past year's class produced 70 enthusiastic strings students who sound extremely advanced for the little experience they have had. This year our strings family is growing: we have 100 beginning strings students who are excited to begin learning the fundamentals of playing a stringed instrument!
Intermediate strings is an audition-only ensemble that is primarily for students who have finished their first year of beginning strings. Intermediate class members are expected to work on their technique and intonation, while learning a variety of strings music. The music performed at the Intermediate level is considered more "pop" in nature, but other classical works are still performed.
Advanced strings is an audition-only ensemble that consists of the top-performing level students. Any age student may qualify, as long as they pass the rigorous audition with Mrs. Rogers. The advanced ensemble requires a high-level of commitment and participation of its members. This strings class is commonly called upon to perform at various community events, ceremonies, and school occasions. The students in advanced strings are expected to uphold the role of a professional musician at all times. Although this is a challenging class, the end results are always spectacular.
